Standing with You. Standing for You.
Social Work Week (SWW) is celebrated each year in Canada during the month of March. In Ontario, the first week of March marks the start of Social Work Week, a week in which we recognize the valuable contributions made by social workers to our students, families and schools.
Within the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, Social Workers work diligently with staff and students to provide support, challenge barriers, create systemic change, empower, and advocate for those in need. “The foundation of Social Work and the dedication that our Social Workers bring to their role every day is a true reflection of our mission and vision at the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board,” says Jenny Athanasiou-Malisa, Manager, Social Work Services.
This year's Social Work Week campaign theme, You Are Not Alone
, underpins the values inherent in social work practice to advance diversity, inclusion, and social justice, and address inequities through the promotion of accessible and essential supports. It also provides schools and families an opportunity to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of social workers, including those on the front lines of COVID-19 who have gone over and above their duty in service to their clients and communities.
The road to wellness is within reach. We know the challenges many of us are facing far too often seem unbearable. It's okay to admit that it's been hard. It's okay to ask for help. We are here for you. You are not alone

During Social Work Week (March 1-7), the HWCDSB would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of our Social Workers in working with students, staff and parents to make school a safe and caring place to be.
